Folks seem to be polarized, and to be either for it or against it. Often this is a function of how we were raised, or the kind of environment we were brought up in.

Instead of getting all nutso and opinionated about it, let’s just look at a few places where a firearm might come in handy. Then you can decide if it might be something that would be logical for your life.

At home

Where you live an influence whether you think you might need a pistol or revolver. I mean, if there is crime all around, it is only natural to think about protecting yourself.

Calm communities can be deceiving, though. Think about it. What better place for a thief to come to than a nice upscale home with lots of loot. Or, if you in an executive neighborhood, you had better be thinking about things like kidnappers who want ransom. It has happened before, and will no doubt happen again.

If you live alone, you could already be at a disadvantage if intruders come to your door  as a group. A weapon could help even out those odds.

At work

One time when people are at risk is when they are entering or leaving their place of employment. We all think that late at night is the most risky time, but that is not necessarily true. If a drug addict needs money for a fix, he is not going to worry about whether his risk of getting caught might be incrementally higher during the day. If you have a pistol, and know how to use it, that could save your bacon.

Depending on your occupation, having protection inside the work place can be appropriate. Work place shootings used to be rear, but now it seems they can happen anywhere.

On the road

When you are traveling in unfamiliar territory, it is easy to make a wrong turn. It is easy to follow a map through a part of town you should have avoided.

Remember the case of the German tourist shot after leaving the Miami airport? Uwe Rakebrand and his expectant wife were headed from the airport to Miami Beach on the freeway. Bam! In an instant he’s shot dead and his young wife is a widow.

It happens.

What should you do?

I’m not telling you to own a gun or not to own one. That’s up to you.

What I do ask is that you not be ignorant to the risks that are out there. Bad people exist. Criminals exist. Attackers exist.

If you think carrying a revolver pistol or other defensive weapon could assist you, then I urge you to explore the subject further. Having a personal firearm could save your life.

If you grew up in the English speaking world playing cowboys and indians, think of a revolver as a cowboy gun. When the picture of a cowboy gun comes into your mind, you are probably seeing a revolver.

A revolver has a cyclinder you can see which rotates, and holds the ammo.

Pistols

Your prototypical pistol not only fires the weapon, but it magically (automatically) loads a new cartridge. That’s why you’ll hear the term, “semi-automatic.”

So……

Does that make sense now? If you are new to guns, and want things basic, then a revolver might be for you. If you plan to put some practice and even more energy into this, then pistols might be better.

It is a good idea to research various storage methods because they are not all the same.  By taking the time to look into different storage options, you can make sure the method you choose has the features you need.  One popular method of storage is to use a gun vault.  Vaults work especially well for individuals who have a large amount of firearms.  Most vaults are made with racks and shelves.  They can house many styles and sizes of firearms.

Another choice is to use a gun safe.  Using a gun safe is a great way to keep track of the number of firearms you own, while keeping them secured behind sealed doors.  Some safes can hold over fifty guns, including longer guns like rifles.  They also contain shelves for smaller items such as handguns and firearm accessories.

Safes are a popular type of handgun storage because they not only hold many items, but they are usually fireproof.  They also protect your firearms from theft.  The safes are secured by using either a combination or electric lock.  Some people keep their safes displayed on a wall while others prefer to keep them hidden from sight.  If you only have a handgun, it may be better for you to purchase a handgun safe.  These safes are very small.  They can hold two handguns, and they are theft proof.

You will also have to consider if you want to purchase something brand new or something previously owned.  If you choose to get something second hand, you should be extra careful and make sure you know where it came from.  You do not want to get something that several people could potentially still have access to.

Pistol storage is an important part of being a responsible owner and collector.  People own guns for a variety of reasons, some people are hunters or collectors while others have a gun for protection or work.  Regardless of why they own firearms, it is imperative to keep your revolvers and pistols properly secured.
